A scientific coordination group devoted to Intelligent Transportation Systems has been set up in the Brittany region, called GIS ITS Bretagne. The focus of this paper is on the LoCoSS project, one of the two first projects launched by the GIS, which aims at improving the efficiency and safety of terrestrial and maritime rescue operations through the use of geo-localization and wireless communication technologies. The paper gives an overview of the project and presents its progress after the first year, particularly in terms of geographical data management and indoor localization of the intervening firemen.Read less <
