A set of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) markers was developed from the transcriptome of ten individuals of the Mediterranean red coral (Corallium rubrum). Seven hundred sixty-five putative SNPs, suitable as genetic markers, were identified, and a subset of 320 SNPs was tested using a MassARRAY System on 71 samples. A total of 179 SNPs were successfully genotyped, and 123 of them were polymorphic, with unambiguous signals, and in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, showing a significant Linkage Disequilibrium in 20 pairs of SNPs. The newly developed markers will be a useful tool for population genetics and parentage studies of this valuable octocoral.< Leer menos
