Crumb, who developed an eccentric obsession with the 1950 Walt Disney live-action movie Treasure Island based on R. L. Stevenson's famous novel. Following a viewing of the movie on TV in 1955, Charles became single-minded about dressing up and speaking like Welsh actor Robert Newton, the Disney film's Long John Silver.
