The existing material selection methods, dealing only with monolithic materials or materials whose properties can be defined as those related to homogeneous materials, often give no solution to complex problems. This contribution aims at illustrating these problems, focusing on the design of a container devoted to the transportation of energetic matters. It appeared that no monolithic material could answer all the needs together. More particularly, some of the expected properties are incompatible. As a consequence, each requirement was considered separately, and a solution was proposed for each one. Then, having one or several solutions for performing each function, a materials coupling has been proposed for simultaneously satisfying the various required functions.Read less <
