The mentions of Nero in the Histories have several functions. Historically, they allow the interpretation of the facts, especially to evaluate the realism and efficiency of the policy of the various emperors. Ideologically they highlight some basic features of the Principate as a regime, especially the role of the dynasty and the imperial court or the personal nature of the relationship between the prince and soldiers. Historiographically they give the image of a Tacitus which adopt the perspective of a senator and, as such, reveals, about a sensitive issue as the he libertas, some ambiguity which suggests itself that, even under Trajan, the upper classes should not abandon their prudentia.< Leer menos
