The field of microfluidics has dramatically improved over the last decade: it enables the transport of minuscule amounts of fluid (nanolitres) through channels the diameter of a single human hair. This miniaturization is increasingly employed to build a wide range of technological devices for example, genome sequencing or using microdroplets as chemical reactors. The aim of this paper is to introduce a two-dimensional numerical model and approximations of bifluid flows in microchannels in order to simulate the dynamics of microdroplets. The bifluid model is derived following the level set approach of Sussman et al. (1994). We perform a numerical stability analysis which leads to a restrictive condition on the computational time step. We then present a method to relax this constraint. We give details and numerical results of the drop forming due to pinching and the evolution of droplets in microchannels using the presented method.< Réduire
