Bronchiolitis is a common viral acute respiratory infection that leads to frequent hospitalisation. Although serious bacterial infections are uncommon in such children (1), they could be co-infected with bacteria and the distinction between colonisation, co-infection or superinfection is not always possible. Antibiotics use varies in these situations (2) and their unnecessary use is a major cause of antibiotic resistance (3). We explored the factors that influenced prescribing antibiotic for previously healthy children hospitalised with bronchiolitis.
