dc.description.abstractLe présent texte hommage à Catherine Heymann explore plusieurs textes de la fin du XIX e siècle sur le territoire amazonien, à partir d'un récit d'exploration oublié de José Torres Lara, au titre poétique des Papillons blancs. Torres Lara évoque les conditions de vie des populations autochtones et l'avancée d'une colonne militaire confrontée aux mêmes obstacles naturels décrits précédemment par le géographe italien Antonio Raimondi, par le diplomate français Olivier Ordinaire et par le sociologue Joaquin Capelo contemporain de Torres Lara et chargé de la construction du chemin transandin, pour atteindre la rivière Pichis et arriver rapidement ensuite à Iquitos par les fleuves Pachitea et Ucayali.
dc.description.abstractEnThis essay explores several late nineteenth-century texts about the Amazon territory, beginning with a forgotten exploration account by José Torres Lara, poetically titled Las mariposas blancas (White Butterflies). Torres Lara reconstructs the living conditions of the indigenous populations and the advance of a military column facing the same natural obstacles previously described by the Italian geographer Antonio Raimondi, the French diplomat Olivier Ordinaire and the sociologist Joaquín Capelo, a contemporary of Torres Lara and in charge of the construction of the Pichis road as the shortest way to reach Iquitos via the Pachitea and Ucayali rivers.
