This thesis provides an overview of psychoactive substance (PS) use and its health impact on young adults aged 18–29 in France among three populations: (i) Among students, PS use appeared dramatically high (65%). Poppers and nitrous oxide were frequently used, but cannabis ranked first [1]. Student with regular cannabis use constituted a high-risk subgroup for addictive and risky sexual behaviors. Alcohol and tobacco uses were risk factors and may help screening for prevention purposes. (ii) In the general population, the impact of so-called “social” use was estimated and corresponded to four out of 10 hospitalizations in general hospital in young PS users nationwide [2]. (iii) Among young psychiatric inpatients, 67% of non-experimental cannabis users reported daily use. Cannabis use was associated with an increase in readmission risk within 3 months following discharge (HR 2.8). Screening of PS use and management of dual diagnosis are crucial for these vulnerable young people.
