dc.description.abstractEnRational approximation to algebraic power series over a finite field leads to consider a subset of elements satisfying a particular type of algebraic equation linked to the characteristic of the base field. By analogy with real numbers, these elements are called hyperquadratic. We give a simple criterion for a quartic power series to be hyperquadratic.
