| dc.description.abstract | Le niveau L de la carrière Thomas 1 est situé vers la fin du Pléistocène ancien (1Ma environ) de la séquence de Casablanca. Plu-sieurs niveaux d'outillages lithiques rapportés à l'Acheuléen ancien lato sensu y ont été repérés (Raynal, Texier, 1989). Ces assemblages constituent à ce jour le témoignage le plus sûr d'une présence humaine ancienne au Maroc atlantique, bien antérieure au "Clacto-Abbevillien" du niveau M de Sidi-Abderrahmane et à l'Acheuléen de l'ancienne carrière de la STIC. Les résultats présentés ici concernent les objets des fouilles récentes (1988-1991) et se rapportent aux matières premières, aux chaînes opératoires et à la variabilité des assemblages. | |
| dc.description.abstractEn | A joint Morocco-France research program, began in 1978 in Casablanca area which is well known for its prehistoric Heritage and its well preserved quaternary sequences. In Thomas Quarry 1 which yielded once Hominids remains, were discovered in 1986 archaeological evidences for a Lower Acheulian settlement in layer "L", at the bottom of the sequence for which we propound a minimum age of 1.0 Ma. Biberson's Acheulian stages I and II from Sidi-Abderrahmane Quarry (layers M and J) and stage III from STIC Quarry (layer D) are much younger. Several lithic assemblages have been considered as the proof of a very old human settlement in Morocco but recent investigations have demonstrated their recent age : thus, Lower Acheulian assemblages from layer "L" of Thomas Quarry 1 at Casablanca is the only one which demonstrates the presence of Humans in Atlantic Morocco circa 1.0 Ma. The study of 2334 artefacts of recent excavations (1988-1991) is presented here. | |
