| dc.description.abstract | Les retraductions sont réputées moins ethnocentriques que les premières traductions. La retraduction de 1982 du tout premier livre de George Orwell, Down and Out in Paris and London (1933), se caractérise, à l’inverse, par une tendance à l’acclimatation, lisible notamment dans les dialogues. A rebours de la démarche d’Orwell, soucieux de ne pas stigmatiser les classes populaires, elle en vulgarise fréquemment la langue, à la faveur notamment du greffage d’un lexique intentionnellement et outrancièrement « coloré » et argotique, qui accentue les stéréotypes populaires et affaiblit partiellement le propos politique du livre. | |
| dc.description.abstractEn | Retranslations are reputed to be less ethnocentric than first translations. The 1982 retranslation of George Orwell’s very first book, Down and Out in Paris and London (1933), appears to be conversely inclined to domestication, as is revealed by the French dialogues in particular. At odds with Orwell’s anxiety not to stigmatize the lower classes, this retranslation frequently vulgarizes their language, notably through the deliberate grafting of outrageously colorful and slangy words and phrases into the dialogues, which exacerbates popular stereotypes and partly undercuts the political concern of the book. | |
