dc.description.abstractForgé par Édouard Estaunié, le substantif « télécommunication » est présenté par les historiens des télécommunications comme apparaissant pour la première fois dans son ouvrage Traité pratique de télécommunication électrique (1904). Si la paternité du néologisme est indiscutable, il ne s’agit pas de la première apparition du mot. Cet article retrace le parcours, en utilisant les sources imprimées numérisées, du mot « télécommunication » de sa création pour l’École professionnelle des Postes et Télégraphes, son adoption internationale lors de la Conférence de Madrid en 1932 et jusqu’à la fin des années 1940.
dc.description.abstractEnForged by Edouard Estaunié, the word “telecommunication” is presented by telecommunications historians as appearing for the first time in his work Traité pratique de télécommunication électrique (1904). While the authorship of the neologism is indisputable, this is not the word’s first appearance. This article traces the path, using digitized printed sources, of the word "telecommunication" from its creation for the Professional School of Posts and Telegraphs, its international adoption at the Madrid Conference in 1932 and until the end of the 1940’s.
