| dc.description.abstract | Le thème de cette thèse, l'interaction entre les dauphins et les activités humaines, est probablement aussi ancien que les premières civilisations humaines. Au cours des dernières années, un intérêt croissant est porté à l'impact des activités humaines sur les écosystèmes marins. Le grand dauphin de méditerrannée, ayant une distribution costale et en compétition directe avec la pêche commerciale, est considéré une des espèces de cétacés la plus menacée qui a le plus besoin de surveillance et de gestion pour réduire les menaces anthropiques. Cette thèse présente une sélection d'études menées durant 15 années le long de la côte Nord-Est de Sardaigne, Italie. Les résultats présentés contribuent à la compréhension de l'écologie d'un super prédateur marin, dans une zone costale soumise à une pression anthropogénique importante, et apportent des informations nécessaires pour la gestion et la conservation de l'écosystème. | |
| dc.description.abstractEn | The overall theme of this dissertation – the interaction between human activities and dolphins – is probably nearly as old as the first human civilizations. Over the last years, there has been increasing concern about the anthropogenic impact on the marine ecosystem. Having a near-shore distribution and a direct competition with commercial fisheries, the Mediterranean bottlenose dolphin is considered one of the most threatened cetaceans and most in need of monitoring and management intervention to reduce anthropogenic threats. This dissertation presents a selection of studies carried out over a span of 15 years along the North-Eastern coast of Sardinia in Italy. The cumulative results presented in this dissertation contribute to the understanding of the ecology of a marine top predator, in a coastal area subject to significant use and pressure by humans, and provide some of the needed baseline data from which effective management and conservation strategies can be designed. | |
