dc.description.abstractEnA summary is given of recent work that provides evidence that the functional form of of the nuclear energy density functional, the rearrangement of the self-consistent mean field when changing neutron and proton number, and explicit fluctuations in collective degrees of freedom should be considered simultaneously when analyzing the evolution of shell structure in terms of nuclear energy density functional methods.
