Bordeaux is built between 1472 and 1492 by the architects Jean I and Jean II Lebas. It is then one of the highest bell towers made of stone in Western Europe. Mainly restored by the architect Paul Abadie during the 1860’s, this bell tower keeps very few remnants from the medieval work. However, it is possible to trace its story and to understand this strong “gesture”, wanted by the contracting authorities and the general managers in Bordeaux during the economic restart which follows the end of the Hundred Years’ War.Read less <
