Higher education and research activities in Western Balkans countries started to be in the focus of interests of the EU recently even if access to EU funds for higher education and research is possible since few years for countries from the region. The article analyses the role of higher education and research in the context of EU integration of Western Balkans countries. Many reforms of higher education systems have been implemented since the integration of Western Balkans countries in the Bologna Process.
