In the last third of the XXth century, international tourism in the world had undergone spectacular development: it became the first industry of the world in the revenue it generates every year. Although the progress of this industry in the Middle East was slowed by the instability of the regional political situation, it did not entirely miss out on this economic opportunity. T he cases of Egypt, and more recently, countries of the Bilad El Sham, the historical region previously known as Greater Syria, and today covering Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Occupied Palestinian Te rritory and Israelare examples of nations which are nowadays part of the global tourism industry.Read less <
