We describe a “fast” optical Kerr gate which can work using nonlinear material with “slow” Kerr nonlinearity. It uses two delayed opening pulses polarized in such a way that the nonlinearity created by the first one is exactly compensated by that of the second one. This experimental configuration allows easy change of the Kerr gate opening time. The signal/noise intensity ratio is better than 20. Some improvements and applications of the scheme are discussed.Read less <
