| dc.description.abstract | Le charlatanisme désigne le fait de proposer des remèdes illusoires ou insuffisamment éprouvés en les présentant comme salutaires ou sans danger. Ces agissements peuvent être réprimés tant sur le plan disciplinaire que pénal. Ces sanctions visent à assurer pour certaines l'intégrité des patients, pour d'autres le monopole médical. Le sens de l'expression " remède illusoire " mériterait d'être affiné afin que les charlatans dont le comportement est dommageable pour tous soient distingués de thérapeutes non-conventionnels répondant à un certain besoin social. | |
| dc.description.abstractEn | Charlatanism is the fact of offering cures that are fake or insufficiently tested and saying of them that they are effective or harmless. Such acts may be punished by disciplinary bodies as well as the criminal courts. For some, such sanctions are aimed at ensuring the safety of patients; for others they only ensure the monopoly enjoyed by the medical profession. The meaning of the term "fake cure" needs to be specified if charlatans whose behavior is harmful to all are to be distinguished from unconventional therapists who fulfill a definite social need. | |
