The intermetallic GdMnAl which crystallizes in the cubic MgCu2-type structure presents an antiferromagnetic transition at T1=298(1) K. We submitted this compound to mechanical grinding and studied the influence of this treatment on both its structural and magnetic properties. The milled sample exhibits a spin-glass transition having Tf=53(1) K as freezing temperature. This behaviour is compared to that observed for isomorphous intermetallic GdMn2 where an antiferromagnetic→ferromagnetic transition is induced by mechanical grinding.Read less <
